DETROIT, Mich. — The St. Louis Blues climbed out of a two-goal hole in the final period Saturday, scoring the last three goals to take a 5-4 decision from Detroit on the Red Wings home ice at Little Caesars Arena.
The deciding goal came from Aleksanteri Kaskimaki, who redirected a low shot from Alexey Toropchenko with 6:45 to play for the first goal of his NHL career. He was skating in his 11th game in the league.
Only 18 seconds earlier, Justin Barron had pulled St. Louis even at 4-4 with a one-timer from the slot. Pavel Buchnevich started the push at 8:37 of the third, cutting the deficit to 4-3 with a wrist shot.
Detroit had built its lead with goals from J.T. Compher, Keegan Kolesar, Lucas Raymond and Emmitt Finnie, whose power-play score made it 4-2 early in the third while Jake Neighbours sat in the box for tripping.
For the Blues, Jimmy Snuggerud now owns a team-high eighth goal after tucking in a rebound late in the second period, and Dalibor Dvorsky opened the scoring 2:29 into the game. Barron and Snuggerud each finished with a goal and an assist.
Goalie Joel Hofer stopped 24 shots as St. Louis improved to 7-6-1 in the first game of a four-game road trip. Detroit fell to 6-5-3.
The comeback was built on very little volume. St. Louis put only 15 shots on goal all afternoon, and the Red Wings held an 8-1 edge in shots through the first period, with Dvorsky converting the lone Blues attempt of the opening 20 minutes.
Detroit goalie John Gibson finished with 10 saves, and he did not make his first stop until 9:05 of the second period, when he turned aside a Dvorsky wrist shot with his team ahead.
Raymond led Detroit with a goal and an assist. The Red Wings had gone 5-1-3 over their previous nine games before the loss.
Saturday was the first stop of the trip, so the Blues still have three more road games before they return to St. Louis.
