# Fortescue Prices $1.5 Billion Notes Swapped Into Renminbi

Fortescue Ltd. priced $1.5 billion of senior unsecured notes and immediately swapped the entire principal into offshore renminbi, locking in an effective interest cost of about 3.9% on debt that carries a 7.0% dollar coupon.

The notes, due Nov. 15, 2032, were issued by Fortescue Treasury Pty Ltd and guaranteed by the Australian iron-ore producer. Settlement is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2026. Through cross-currency swaps, Fortescue converted the $1.5 billion into approximately CNH 9.95 billion.

## Dollar paper, renminbi economics

Issuing in dollars and swapping into renminbi lets Fortescue tap deep U.S. high-grade demand while matching a funding currency closer to the markets where much of its iron ore is sold. The 7.0% coupon would be expensive in isolation; after the swap, the company said the effective rate falls to about 3.9%.

Proceeds are earmarked for general corporate purposes and may be used to repay existing borrowings. The structure is a reminder that for commodity exporters, the all-in cost after hedges often matters more than the headline coupon.

## Balance-sheet tool

Fortescue has been funding both its traditional iron-ore operations and a growing green-energy push. A long-dated, swapped note gives it duration without concentrating refinancing risk in any single bank market.

Investors in the dollar notes take Fortescue credit risk; the swap counterparties take the currency and rate overlay. The ASX filing confirmed pricing Thursday, giving the market a clear look at how the miner wants to term out its liabilities into 2032.
